Principal PDMS Piping Designer

Purpose/ Role

Deliver all piping engineering discipline design activities to cost, schedule and quality criteria. Manage all the discipline design team on a project.

Key aims and objectives

  • Execute design and draughting activities (Concept, Front End Engineering Development, Technical Study and Detailed Design).
  • Act as a discipline focal point.
  • Prepare piping drawings and design deliverables to the required technical quality with minimum input from engineering personnel.
Prime Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Implement Company, and where applicable, Client/Project policies and procedures.
  • Supervision of design/draughting personnel and allocation of work.
  • Remain abreast of legislative requirements.
  • Approval, checking and preparation of design/engineering documentation.
  • Undertake tasks on behalf of Design Manager, Lead Engineer or Senior Engineer as directed.
  • Undertake work in accordance with relevant Codes, Standards and Procedures.
  • Undertake surveys necessary to develop area of work assigned.
  • Maintain and develop current awareness of relevant engineering technology.
  • Maintain and develop current awareness of relevant Codes and Standards.
  • Liaise with other disciplines, departments, project personnel, vendors etc.
  • Ensure all design and documents are completed within the allocated hours and in accordance with the programme
  • Advise Design Manager/ Lead Engineer of changes in resources required.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Self Starter; strong delivery focus; highly motivated; eager to contribute to an effective and efficient design/drafting team.
  • The candidate will be able to operate as part of a small team, will demonstrate good safety awareness; should be able to step in to Lead role if required to cover.
  • The candidate will have proven experience of an engineering design environment in Petrochem/O&G industry.
  • Strong experience of PDMS (must be proficient user as minimum requirement).
  • Proficient user of PMDS and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to check piping deliverables in a 2-D and 3-D environment.
  • HNC/NVQ in discipline preferred.
  • Formal training in AutoCAD and PDMS (preferable).
  • Must be able to work to an agreed scope, budget and schedule.
  • Planning and organising.
  • Previous relevant Senior Piping Engineering experience within Oil and Gas.
  • Minimum HNC OR HND.
