Principal Technical Safety Engineer

Profile

A highly-experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise. Long familiarity with the use of appropriate codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation. Familiar with analytical methods used within discipline including theoretical background for analysis programs. Possessing a Safety-related degree or postgraduate qualification.
Able to manage a discipline team or teams assigned in effective delivery of work required. Available to assist the Lead Engineer when required in the management of the discipline design function. Able to represent the Safety Engineering group in project safety and design reviews and studies,as required. Familiar with HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and risk assessments. Able to undertake consequence modelling, and to assess Major Accident Hazards. Familiar with standard QRA techniques. Able to determine and define project safety critical elements and produce or amend performance standards as necessary.


Key aims and objectives
  • Assist Lead Engineer, as required, in discipline management tasks
  • Lead discipline team on projects and provide direction and advice to junior engineers
  • Produce discipline deliverables in line with project requirement
  • Check discipline documentation to ensure technical integrity.

Prime Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Implement Company, and where applicable, Client/Project policies and procedures.
  • Supervision of junior personnel and allocation of work.
  • Remain abreast of legislative requirements.
  • Approval, checking and preparation of engineering documentation.
  • Undertake tasks on behalf of Lead Engineer as directed.
  • Ensure work produced complies with relevant Codes, Standards and Procedures.
  • Undertake onshore and offshore surveys if necessary.
  • Liaise with other disciplines, departments, project personnel, vendors etc.
  • Manage production of deliverables to meet project schedules
  • Advise Lead Engineer of changes to resource requirements.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Able to work without guidance and to manage team of discipline engineers.
  • Able to exhibit exemplary attitude to teamwork and assist in team building
  • The candidate will have proven experience of an engineering design environment in Petrochem/O&G industry.
  • Experienced in production of usual Technical Safety documentation
  • Proficient user of PHAST or similar programs
  • Capability to check documentation to a high standard
  • Safety or similar degree preferred
  • Offshore experience preferred
  • Should have previous experience at Principal level in Oil and Gas industry
  • Good written and spoken English
